In 1891, Konow and Davidson apply for patent of the
first continuous production of tubular ball mill. It is a cylinder supported by
both ends of the device. It is equipped with a grinding media inside. The
cylinder circled around the center line of the cement mill rotary. When the grinding
media is brought to a certain height by friction, it falls down. When the materials
continuously pass through the cylinder, they impact by grinding medium and
grinding and then become sound products. When the grinding media is steel ball,
it is called ball mill. And when the grinding media is steel bar, it is called
rod mill.
Our country’s
beneficiation technology is influenced by the former Soviet
Union heavily. In the grinding operation, ball mill is the main crushing
equipment no matter coarse grinding or fine grinding. Comparing with foreign ball
mill, we can obviously find that the ball diameter of our country’s steel ball
mill is much bigger than that of the foreign. And our adding ball system is not
reasonable. These lead to the grinding process growing down. So ball mill faces
a big reform.
